5 Effective Soccer Coaching Tips
There are many ways on coaching soccer effectively. You can even perform these useful tips.
To produce a successful soccer team, the soccer coach must have known a few basic tips. Soccer coaching is challenging, yet an enjoyable experience.
I’ll be sharing you 5 easy tips that will help your team grow and become successful.
1. Develop a soccer season plan
Grab a piece of paper and make an outline of your soccer team’s goal for the next season. This will include your team’s mission, expectations, timelines, rules and regulations, etc. Focus on that goal and write the necessary things to be done to achieve your goal.
After you’re done with the soccer plan, present it to the coach director, soccer players, and the players’ parents as well. Involve them in the planning because their participation matters a lot. It would be great to take down notes about their views during your discussions. These are very helpful because it is important that you will have the same purpose in the end, the purpose of working hard together to reach your soccer team’s goal.
2. Work hard but in a fun way
To gain respect and to keep your team in order, being a strict coach is important. Always remind them that there is always a time for play and a time for work. Develop ways in your training sessions that are enjoyable, but still can help the soccer players stay focused.
Create fun ways of performing your soccer drills to help the players not to get bored easily, especially when you’re training kid players.
3. Plan the soccer training session ahead of time
Plan a schedule of activities for the upcoming session. This is very helpful as it will help you and your soccer team stay focused on the training. Be conscious about your players’ performance during the session to track their growth. If necessary, develop fun activities for them to keep their energy up like games that are 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, small sided then full sided game.
Always be adaptive with your planned activities. This will help you track your soccer team’s growth.
4. Be friendly and approachable
A competent coach is an approachable coach. He should know each soccer player’s personality because every team member possesses different attitudes. It is important that you get to know them so that you will know how to motivate them according to their personalities. Establish a good player-coach relationship through being aware of their lifestyles, personal experiences and interests, school matters, etc.
But always be reminded to not get too close and show them the boundaries between a coach and a player. As every game coach says, Get personal but stay professional.
5. Monitor activities and do some reporting
Te keep a competitive atmosphere, monitor the stats during the training sessions. Provide rewards to the team as well. Keep a record of their performances and report them to the soccer players, even the comical ones, at every end of the game for you to continue on motivating the soccer players.
Bonus tip: Always recognize the soccer players’ game conduct at the end of the day. You can teach them appreciation of their performances by asking them to rate their soccer game from from 1-10, having 1 = the worst game and 10 = a perfect game. Always stimulate their spirit by telling them that they could do better next time by focusing on their training activities. Encourage their participation by asking their ideas on how they could have excelling soccer performances next time. Make sure to write them down and include their ideas in your planned activities for the next session.
I hope these 5 simple tips help you in your soccer coaching experience.
