A Breakdown Of The 2010 Eastern Conference Playoffs

The 2010 NBA playoffs have had their moments of highs and lows. Here is a quick look at everything that has gone down in the Eastern Conference bracket.

In the first round of the playoffs, there were four compelling matchups. The Magic faced the Bobcats, the Hawks vs. the Bucks, the Cavs played the Bulls and the Celtics played the Heat. I was most excited for the Magic/Bobcats series because I felt a spoiler for an overachieving (or so I thought) Magic team. Turns out the Magic were to be taken seriously and blasted through the Bobcats in 4 games.

The Chicago Bulls faced off against the number one seed, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Everyone had high expectations for this years Cavs, as it was potentially Lebron James’ last year in Cleveland. Lebron and the Cavs took care of business and beat the Bulls in 5 games, 4-1.

The Celtics and Heat had the writings of a great matchup, Wade vs. the Big Three. Apparently Wade is content with his 1 championship ring and I don’t see him getting close to an NBA finals again, unless the Heat management stirs the pot this offseason. The Celtics took this one in 5 games.

Surprisingly, the best matchup of this series ended up being the Milwaukee Bucks vs. the Atlanta Hawks. The Bucks are a quietly dangerous team and Brandon Jennings has a bright future in Milwaukee. This was the only series that went to 7 games and the Hawks were fortunate to win, but that’s where their playoff fortunes would end.

Round 2 gave way to some lackluster matchups. The Magic plowed through the Hawks in 4 games straight by a record setting margin of points. It was never close.

The Cavs played the Celtics and while they were up 2-1, lost the next three games straight. One has to consider the possibility that Lebron may have wanted to lose this one so he has an excuse to leave Cleveland. Just a theory.

Now the Eastern Conference finals are going on and it looks like it is all but over. The Magic managed to win the last one to make it go to five games, but it seems like the Celtics are destined to get back to the finals.
