Basketball Coaching Tips To Help You Win

You can still see good basketball coaching at all levels, and they are easy to find. But the really great coaches are the more difficult to find. If you are looking to be one of the one-of-a-kind, great coaches, then there are some things that you must do if you would like to reach that level of greatness. What each coach must remember is:

1- If you think that by forcing the rules on the players, thinking that you run the game, direct the plays, and pretty much make the players life wretched, then you definitely have the wrong perspective. The players should know that they should be able to count on you as their coach and mentor to be there for them when they are going through a rough period. You must encourage and support them. There are times when their playing level is less than perfect, and you must be there to help them do better, especially to those to whom it happens more frequently. Some basketball drills are done so as to help ingrain the needed skills into the players mind, and once the coach has done his part, when the real game happens, he should not interfere and let the players do the best they can with what they were taught. Only if the team really needs help should the coach step in.

2 A coach should always be prepared for anything the game and the opposing team will throw at him. The best basketball plays in the playbook will not be enough to stop the opposing team from beating his team if the other team has equally good plays. In order to be prepared for anything basketball season may offer, the coach should prepare a good playbook before the season starts. When the players start training the players and learning the basketball plays, that is when the preparation for the season comes in. If the coach has prepared his players well, his team will be able to withstand any offensive or defensive strategy, no matter how effective.

3) Perfection is necessary to having a quality team, and the coach should focus on team perfection, while still allowing for mistakes. There will be some mistakes and the coach should not be too uptight about it. The coach has to understand that 100% perfection is impossible for any human, no matter how talented. Most of the best players have off games and even off seasons and coaches will just have to accept that fact. During practices the coach should push for perfection in whatever a player dies- dribbling, shooting, passing, etc.- but during the game, the coach should encourage the players to play to the best of their ability whether perfection happens or not.

4) Seeing the strengths and weaknesses of each team player and learning to work with and around them is what makes a great coach. They see how the strengths and weaknesses can be balanced between the players making them only strengths. The great coaches exploit the weaknesses, and thus they have a well-rounded team, while the mediocre ones try to train the weaknesses out.
