The Baylor University is known to have quite a successful baseball team known by the name of the Baylor Bears. They are currently playing in the NCAA Division I college baseball like most other teams. The team his controlled by the Big 12 Conference.

Steve Smith their head coach has been with the team for a period of fifteen years, which is an indication of how successful a coach he has been. The Baylor Ballpark, which is where all home games are played by the Baylor Bears, can withstand a capacity crowd of 5000 fans and spectators.

The team’s uniform colors are green and gold. Other well known teams such as Kansas Jay hawks, Kansas State Wildcats, Missouri Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are also controlled by the B12 Conference.

A very famous player from the Baylor University, Ted Lyons, went on to play major league. He was born in Lake Charles Louisiana on 28th December 1900, having left university; Ted joined the Chicago White Sox and made his debut on 2nd July 1923.

Ted was renowned for his hand changes when batting. He always kept the pitcher guessing as to whether Ted would use his left or right hand to bat. This made him very successful during his career which was entirely with the Chicago White Sox from 1923 to 1946.

Ted managed to maintain a win loss ratio of 260-230 with an average earned run rate of 3.67 and a remarkable 1073 strike outs which are considered to be great achievements. Although he started as a pitcher he changed his position later on. Ted Lyons later on became the manager of the Chicago White Sox from 1946 to 1948.

His last appearance as a player for the team was on May 19th, 1946. Some of his career highlights included the selection of him in the All Star team in 1939 and the number 16 for Chicago White Sox. He was inducted into the Baseball hall of fame as entry number 1955. He received a vote of 86.5% from an eight ballot vote which led him to receive the prestigious honor.

At a time when Ted was peaking in his performance, there was a lot of talk about other teams needing his services for their state. Even while acknowledging his formidable success many felt that he would have faired even better if he had played for the state.

Considered a baseball legend, Ted Lyons is an iconic player for those who love and enjoy the game. He was 85 years old when he passed away in Sulphur, Louisiana on 25th of July in 1986
