Preparations And Practice For Successful Bass Fishing

To catch a bass practice and preparation are required. Bass fishing can otherwise be very trick if done incorrectly. But, when spools are maintained, individuals practice, and quality bait and techniques are used, a fish will be caught.

Before fishing check the status of spools. When only half filled with fishing line more force is required to work the spool. This can make things much more complicated. For ideal results always ensure that spools are filled with the correct amount of line.

Casting plugs are ideal for practicing. With their use, techniques can be practiced and perfected in an individuals own backyard. The largest available plug is best at first. Sit in a chair and hold the rod and reel as the plug falls to the ground. Practice slowing it as it falls down. When it reaches the ground stop it completely with a thumb on the spool. All of this should be done for half an hour daily to get best results.

With time a plug should be easily directed to targets both near and far. During casting the upper arm should remain still and all action should originate from the elbow and wrist. Best reels to use are bait caster reels, which can be operated with one hand and don’t twist lines while casting. They also work well with both heavy and light line.

To ultimately be successful the appropriate bait must be used. The three most recommended types are spinnerbaits, topwaters, and crankbaits. Spinnerbaits travel fast to reach the water and remain fast moving within it. Topwaters work optimally during little wind with surface ripples and during the late evening or early morning. Lipless crank baits are especially successful in catching bass hiding in tall grass.

After sufficient preparation and practice, it is time for real fishing. In the United States there are four main types of bass. These are the Guadalupe, spotted, smallmouth, and largemouth bass. The largemouth has distinguishing dark horizontal stripes and grows the largest. The smallmouth has vertical running stripes. Spotted fish have colorings like the largemouths but also have smaller mouths. The Guadalupe is the smallest and also a member of the vulnerable species list.

First decide what type of bass is being fished for and travel to the appropriate location. The most successful times for fishing are at dawn and at dusk. Once at a fishing area, locate a target in the water. Bass are typically found next to large schools of bait fish and hide out in covered areas nearby. Use the skills learned in spool control to go after a targeted location. Hopefully the spool will be properly filled so it can be easily manipulated. Using the three types of bait previously mentioned, odds are that a fish will be caught.

Overall, fishing should only be an enjoyable experience and one that often reaps rewards. However this is only true if the correct supplies are available and when they are correctly maintained. In addition, skills and techniques should be continually practiced. Doing this, along with using the correct bait, there is little chance that a fisherman will not catch his fish.
