Swimming As Part Of A Balanced Exercise Schedule
If youve set yourself a new years resolution this year and that resolution is along the lines of getting fit or losing weight then the thought of heading out for a run in the cold or rain can be pretty unappealing at the best of times, however, if you dont limit yourself to just one form of exercise you can still tick off your targets. If you mix up your running schedule and swap a couple of running sessions with swimming sessions then you can spend those cold rainy days in the pool and still gain the same benefits, as an exercise swimming will work all of your major muscle groups and cardio vascular system in one session, if youre fortunate enough to have a swimming pool or above ground pools in your garden then it doesnt have to be difficult or time consuming either.
For some people swimming can cause a whole heap of anxieties and fears to rear their ugly heads but fear not, if you’re not a competent swimmer then why not sign up for swimming lessons at a local pool or go with a friend who is a good swimmer and let them teach you, the lessons will still be physically demanding and you will still be ticking off those calories as you make progress on transforming your body. While swimming will exercise every major muscle group in your body it’s important to remember that it’s not a one stop solution to weight loss, by combining swimming with land exercises such as running, walking or cycling you can maximise your workout schedule and get the most out of the time you set aside for exercising.
If youre considering swimming as an alternative to other forms of exercise and you do have access to your own swimming pool then its vital that you look after your pool and maintain it accordingly by using the correct swimming pool chemicals in your pool and keeping it covered when not in use with a swimming pool cover, also you should be checking that your pool pump is working efficiently and that the filters in the pool are clean and clear, this way you can ensure you and your pool are in the best of health.
