There are a few things that every basketball coach should remember, and these things are of vital importance in helping him become a good coach for his players.

The most important thing is not only to win, which to many coaches is all the game is to them. The team members playing to the best of their abilities is what matters more than winning the game- though that is a nice plus. By a player playing as best as he can will help him to improve his game more than by actually winning the game.

You must be tough and firm when it comes to discipline, maybe go through so many Basketball Drills until the players drop, but you must also be fair. That means that you should treat your players right, but be firm and not a push over. Don’t hesitate to lay things out as they are, and instead of negatively criticizing them, use positive criticism instead and help motivate them to improve.

Motivate your team to do their best. If you do not motivate your players, then they are only as good as those that shoot hoops in their spare time. Those players that have made it to the top, and the best Basketball Plays that have ever been played, have been successful because of the effect of motivation. Only the players that have been properly motivated will play the best game and those coaches who use motivation as a religion will lead their team into triumphs.

It is not only about the sports aspect, but also about life. Going through drills, learning the techniques and the plays in the playbook are important, but the life lessons that you teach them are far more priceless to them. They will not only master a sport, but they will have something to take with them outside the world of basketball. They will not leave empty handed. Lessons in dedication, honesty, perseverance, and integrity are all something invaluable each player can use in the non- basketball world.

Being a team is what playing basketball is about. Most players are taught just how to find their skills, and many of those have become superstar players. But a valuable lesson that has led to dream teams such as the Chicago Bulls, was working as a team. No Favorites A good coach will never choose his favorite player or players from the team, but will focus on helping all the players on his team reaching their potential. Mediocre and poor coaches pay attention exclusively to the superstars on the team, but a good coach helps all the players to excel. The superstars may be the head of the team, but a head without a backbone is useless, and the coach teaches all the players to pull their weight on the team. Never Raise your Voice A good coach will never use anger to cow his players, and will not raise his voice to yell at them. That anger will only breed anger in response, and soon the team will begin to break up.

A good coach will never raise his voice or use anger or force to intimidate the players. That will only cause anger between the players and the team could break up because of it. Helping his players give all that they got and helping them feel that they accomplished something is a mark of a good coach.
